Collaborative classification is a process which can be applied for universal concepts. Music is one concept where collaborative classification is heavily used and enables artists to help organize their music according to a specific genre. This process categorizes music by having users select their favorite types of music, according to genre, and organize them into an album or playlist. These albums or playlists can then be shared with the world where people are able to tune in and share the playlist, like or dislike them, and add to another's album. The sharing of music has revolutionized the music industry by connecting artists all over the world with famous producers and connecting to audiences of various interests.
Collaborative classification is not only involved in music, but is enhanced through gaming operating systems as well. According to the academic article, Harnessing
user generated multimedia content in the creation of collaborative
classification structures and retrieval learning games, O.J. Borchert discusses how classification is included in the virtual world and how
using this systematic process aids in the development of categorization. “Communication is integrated into the experience through specific tasks
and communication mediums” (O.J. Borchert 9-10). Borchert's statement indicates how collaborative classification is structured on teamwork which constructs the internet's organization based on society’s
communication. Collaborative classification is the systematic process which can not be undertaken without having a group of individuals unite and discover interests together.
